Aranjuez introduced a Single Vineyard Tannat made from the first Tannat vineyard planted in Tarija in 1999. It is Block 40 of the estate vineyard La Nueva at 2000 m.a.s.l in Santa Ana.
The name of the wine, Tannat origen, refers to the fact that this vineyard is the origin of Tannat in Bolivia.
Aranjuez is using the premium fruit from this site for the wine and has aged it 6 months in new and second fill barriques, both French and American, followed by 6 months aging in the bottle. Cees van Casteren MW tasted the wine and was impressed with the purity of the fruit, the mineral intensity and balanced oak complexity.
The Tannat Origin won a Gold Medal in the 2016 “Tannat al Mundo” in Uruguay which is the global forum for Tannat wines, endorsed by OIV and IEU. It was one of the top 5 winners overall! See for more details: http://www.tannatalmundo.com.uy/vinos-premiados/
Aranjuez is a Tannat especialist and presented in 2004 the first wine made from Tannat (Duo Tannat Merlot).
After this they made the first monovarietal Tannat (Aranjuez Tannat) in 2009 and in 2014 they introduced the icon wine Juan Cruz, made from 100% Tannat as well. This wine is widely seen as one of the best wines of Bolivia.
